Some feedback. Pupils are generally weaker in subtraction and word problems.
Some pupils cannot correctly work out routine questions such as 15-8 or 14-7. As pupils have not learnt regrouping yet, they can only rely on counting backwards or make 10 (in textbook) to solve the questions.
Eg
15-8=?
10 and 5 make 15.
10-8=2
So 2 and 5 make 7.
15-8=7
Some pupils do find this difficult. So, I will ask them to count backwards.
As for word problems, pupils have difficulty comprehending the questions and they are unable to differentiate if they are looking for the part or whole. Sometimes, they have the correct method but they make careless mistake in the final answer.
I have given them an extra set of Maths worksheet on word problem for them to practise over the weekend. They will also receive another set of Maths worksheet for next weekend. Do help your child to revise the subtraction concept and word problem.
Thanks,
Mrs Lee
